If that’s you in the picture, juggling priorities, then before long one of those balls will drop to the floor. You have seen, yourself, how nobody juggling is 100% successful, that even the best jugglers lose the occasional object.
Is it OK if one of the balls falls?
Ask yourself
– ‘Am I Leading, or do I just have a job as one of the managers in the business?’
– ‘Are my middle managers leading their teams or just muddling through?”
A good test might be – Does the business function when you are away; would it continue successfully if you were suddenly ill for 6 weeks? Or to consider if everyone knows what they are doing, in what direction and to what aim so that your input is merely fine tuning.
Can you say that your business is growing, you are innovating, staff stay because they like working for you?
Can you be like Ken Blanchard’s iconic ‘One-Minute Manager’;* always available, an effective coach, quick to praise quality work but effective in turning around poor performance?
