Do you know how to change behaviour?

Which means your behaviour, or what people do in the team or department you lead.

A Major difficulty?

  • Have you found it difficult? Or worse – tried hard and failed, finding it impossible?
  • Did your big ‘change initiative’; retraining; masses of new documentation not cut it?
  • Have you given up trying to change things?

Maybe you just need to understand how change works…

…THEN – you can change what you do to make it happen

The Gholdenphish way is to use modern neuroscience to explain how the mind really works and show you how to use this understanding to improve your outcomes.

What drives change is understanding.
Deep down you know this from childhood experience.
Eg, we all understand that fire is hot and can burn you. If you are just told that, it wont necessarily change your behaviour. When you get too close and feel pain, then you actually understand. This understanding changes what you think. The old thought might be ‘lets touch this flickering shape or red log’ – the new thought is ‘don’t touch … because’ [your understanding is the ‘because’]

New behaviour is just one thought away: we can have new thinking at any moment.
We call new understanding learning, realising, or just seeing or we might describe an ‘insight’ we had. Whichever, it is clearly the basis of changed behaviour. The first time you put your cashmere jumper in the 60 degree wash you will understand that the outcome is not what you wanted. Your new thought and new behaviour will be ‘separate wash, separate time – must avoid any mix-up in the basket’.

The really good thing is that change that is based on understanding is INSTANT and irreversible. You never unlearn the danger of fire.

Do you need to make some changes?
Let’s talk about how you can make it happen.
